Pick a board and a role

For a POTA gateway pick a Room server + POTA image. ESP32-S3 boards use the browser installer in Chrome or Edge. nRF52840 boards download a UF2: double-tap reset and copy that file onto the drive that appears.

Before you flash

  • Wio Tracker L1 OTA name changed. The nRF52 BLE OTA/DFU name is now WioTrackerL1_OTA (upstream now uses one _OTA suffix for all nRF52 boards). Look for that name in the DFU app.
  • Room set repeat is deprecated in v1.18. On a room server, set repeat on now returns ERR - repeat now deprecated. Use a separate repeater node if you need repeating.
  • POTA gateway images are room-server firmware, not repeaters. The XIAO build has no OLED; status is the serial pota command. The POTA User-Agent is now MeshCore-POTA-Gateway/v1.18.0+pota.

What's new vs 1.17

  • Rebased on upstream MeshCore v1.18.0, with the POTA gateway, its anti-abuse checks, and our stability fixes ported on top.
  • Stability fixes from our upstream sweep: GPS validation, signed TX power, nRF52 millis wrap, CLI use-after-free, companion queue, blank guest password, packet-score and SPI buffer overflows, the 24.8-day Dispatcher time wrap, and brownout shutdown handling.
  • Companion firmware flushes pending writes before restart or shutdown.
  • Upstream v1.18.0: fixed a stack buffer overflow in MACThenDecrypt (block-alignment check before HMAC).
  • Upstream v1.18.0: ESP32 no longer resets to a 1970 date after a crash, watchdog, or brownout reset.
  • Upstream v1.18.0: direct-mode ACK forwarding gets a proper delay, nodes with adverts off ignore DISCOVER requests, and transport code 0 is treated as un-scoped.
  • Upstream v1.18.0: nRF52 undervoltage boot-lock disabled, and GPS cold-start detection polls up to 5 s.
  • Version string v1.18.0+pota on the boot screen, the ver command, a repeater owner-info reply, and the companion app’s device info.
